The Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities is in charge of more than twenty long-term projects under the umbrella of the funding programme of the Union of the German Academies of Sciences and Humanities (Union der deutschen Akademien der Wissenschaften), which emphasizes research in the humanities. These projects are not only of national scientific interest but reach out into Europe and beyond. In addition to research funded by the Union of German Academies, the Göttingen Academy also coordinates projects financed, e.g., by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).
Investigations in the humanities and natural sciences also take place in scientific working groups which bring together academy members and external experts for cooperative work.
Since the Academy has been cultivating cooperation between experts of all disciplines since 1751, it has developed and maintained many and close connections within the international community of scholarly knowledge. Projects are being undertaken in contact with scientists from a variety of research institutions located all over the world.
