Overview

The Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Lower Saxony supervises more than twenty projects in its programme, which is funded by the federal and state governments to promote long-term research projects in the humanities and social sciences, most of which are interdisciplinary. In overseeing this programme, the Göttingen Academy is the largest non-university institution in the field of basic research in the humanities in Lower Saxony.

In addition to the research projects funded through the Academy’s programme, the Göttingen Academy also coordinates other research proposals funded by, for example, the German Research Foundation.

Investigations in the humanities and natural sciences also take place in research commissions, in which Academy members and other experts come together for collaborative work.

Because the Göttingen Academy has been cultivating cooperation between scholars of all disciplines since 1751, it has numerous and close connections with the international scholarly community. Projects are carried out in contact with scientists from diverse research institutions all over the world.

The Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Lower Saxony follows the Recommendations of the German Research Foundation to ensure good scholarly practice.
