The surprising initial spark for a research project often arises in unintentional conversation, which, in the day-to-day operations of a university, is hardly possible.
The Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Lower Saxony offers a platform for this. When scientists from entirely different disciplines come together, there is great stimulus for new topics. Sometimes an idea turns into an official commission through which scientific questions are pursued in the medium to long term. Regular lecture events, symposia, and conferences, as well as the publication of report volumes currently characterise the work of the commissions.
The commissions are financially supported by the Academy, although to a considerably lesser extent than the workplaces for projects of the Academy’s research programme. All members of the commissions also work on an honorary basis. In this brochure, which can also be requested as a printed copy from the office, the commissions are presented in more detail.
