Yearbook of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities
The Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Lower Saxony, one of the most long-standing institutions of its kind, brings together scholars from a wide range of disciplines. Its Yearbook documents the Academy’s developments over the course of a fiscal year. In addition to the annual report, award and prize recipients, and the member directory, it presents the Academy’s research projects and features selected public lectures. The Yearbook can be purchased in print from Göttingen University Press (for editions from 2017 onward) or from De Gruyter (for editions up to 2016), and it is also available free of charge as a PDF file.
Akademie im Gespräch (Academy in Conversation)
Academy in Conversation is a publication series featuring lectures by Academy members that were delivered during internal plenary sessions and that address issues of broad societal interest. These include current topics such as ‘Focus on Europe,’ ‘Migration,’ and ‘Fake News,’ as well as universally relevant themes like ‘Life and Death.’ The booklets can be purchased in print from Göttingen University Press or downloaded free of charge as PDF files. The series was discontinued in 2025; member lectures delivered at plenary sessions are now generally published in the Academy’s Yearbook.
Abhandlungen - Neue Folge (Papers of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities - New Edition)
The Papers of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities - New Edition are the Academy’s foremost scholarly publication series and continue a long and distinguished tradition: Between 1752 and 1842, the Academy, then still known as the Royal Society of Sciences, published its Latin-language Commentarii, or Commentationes, featuring the work of such eminent scholars as Haller, Gesner, Blumenbach, Heyne, and Gauss. Since 1842, the Academy has been publishing its papers in German, presenting research findings by Academy members, collaborators in Academy research projects, and invited scholars. Like the earlier series, the New Papers include works from both the humanities and the natural sciences. The Papers of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences - New Edition can be purchased from De Gruyter or downloaded as PDF files.

Göttingische Gelehrte Anzeigen (Göttingen Scholarly Announcements)
Founded in 1739, the Göttingische Gelehrte Anzeigen is the oldest still-existing review journal in the German language. Albrecht von Haller, the first president of what was then the Royal Society of Sciences, gave the journal, originally titled Göttingische Zeitungen von Gelehrten Sachen (Göttingen Gazette of Learned Matters), its characteristical face: a commitment to polyhistoric versatility, rigorous and constructive criticism, and close scholarly ties with the international academic community.
With its 260th volume, and in the spirit of Albrecht von Haller’s broad interdisciplinary vision and his commitment to the unity of knowledge, the journal expanded the range of subjects it reviews. In addition to its traditional focus on the humanities, it now includes recent publications in political science, economics, and finance, as well as natural sciences; particularly where these intersect meaningfully with the humanities, such as current developments in the life sciences. The Göttingische Gelehrte Anzeigen can be purchased from Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht or downloaded as PDF files.
Author Guidelines for the ‘Göttingische Gelehrte Anzeigen’

The Göttingische Gelehrte Anzeigen invites contributions that reflect its longstanding scholarly tradition and commitment to critical, in-depth review. We kindly ask all contributors to carefully observe the following guidelines.
Dear Authors,
In keeping with its tradition, the Göttingische Gelehrte Anzeigen covers all fields of the humanities, particularly philological and historical disciplines, including theology, as well as selected topics in the natural sciences that are of broader public relevance. The journal is published twice a year, with a total length of 20 printed sheets (320 pages). It offers space for critical, thorough, detailed reviews that contribute meaningfully to scholarly discussion of noteworthy new publications. Brief notices or purely laudatory mentions of a book are not accepted.
As a general guideline, a review in the Göttingische Gelehrte Anzeigen should be between 12 and 15 printed pages, including all annotations and notes. This allows for around 9 to 12 contributions per issue. One printed page corresponds to approximately 3,000 characters (including spaces). Further details can be found in the information sheet for contributors to the Göttingische Gelehrte Anzeigen, which also includes typographic specifications.
