Fostering Early-Career Research and International Exchange
The Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Lower Saxony upholds its seal motto, 'Fecundat et ornat – it brings forth and it adorns', by annually honouring outstanding early-career researchers and distinguished scholars. Supported by its own members and generous sponsors, the Academy in this way encourages exceptional academics to pursue and expand their pioneering work.
Among the Academy’s most prestigious distinctions is the Lichtenberg Medal, its highest honour. This award is presented to outstanding scholars whose impact transcends the boundaries of their professional discipline and resonates broadly within the public sphere.
The Gauss Professorship further underscores the Academy’s commitment to international exchange. By inviting distinguished scholars from abroad to Göttingen, the programme fosters global academic collaboration, with an emphasis on the fields once championed by German mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss.
