Manuscripts are collated by student assistants. A research fellow coordinates and supervises this process.

The fundamental principle that underlies the collation process is completeness of notation according to prescribed modes of recording: all variants, errors, mistakes and orthographic peculiarities are recorded. Entries are made manually into collation books of 150–200 pages each that have been manufactured for this specific end.
