Conflict Resolution & Counselling

In cases of conflict between colleagues or between supervisors and staff, the Secretary-General is available for consultation in addition to the Staff Council. This applies particularly to conflicts that involve labor or collective bargaining matters.

For interpersonal conflicts, the Academy’s Equal Opportunities Officer, Dr Ulrike Stöwer, who is a trained mediator and coach, offers consultation sessions and supervision to staff members. It is often helpful to examine a problem with an external perspective; whether you are experiencing a conflict, facing a difficult decision, or wish to reflect on your professional conduct. Conflicts can often be prevented if the parties engage in early discussions to clarify potential misunderstandings or disagreements. In cases of existing conflicts, mediation can help achieve a resolution acceptable to both sides.
