Alfred Bammesberger, Dr. phil.
1980–2006 Professor and Chair for English and Comparative Linguistics at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt.

Applicant and member of the commission (2010–2016) for the Academy project Runic writing in the Germanic languages (RuneS); since March 2010 head of the research unit Eichstätt-München (together with E. Ronneberger-Sibold and U. Lenker).
Academic career:
State exam for teachers in English and French 1962–1965, PhD. (München 1965), Habilitation (Freiburg 1970). Professor for English and Comparative Linguistics, Catholic University of Eichstätt as from 1980, retired in 2006. Offers of professorships declined: Münster (1979), Würzburg (1988), Freiburg (1989).
Main research interests:
Historical linguistics in the domain of the Indo-European languages, with a particular focus on the Germanic, Baltic and Celtic languages.
