The document server res doctae, operated by the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities, stands in the tradition of the journal "Göttingische Zeitungen von Gelehrten Sachen" (Göttingen News of Scholarly Matters) published since 1739. As an institutional repository, res doctae offers an organisational and technical framework to all members of the Academy, as well as to the members of its scientific working goups and projects, for electronic publication of scientific documents.

res doctae is run by the Göttingen Academy in close cooperation with the State and University Library Göttingen (SUB Göttingen) and the Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbH Göttingen (GWDG), the Göttingen Association for Scientific Data Processing. The aims are to collect scientific documents, to make them freely accessible online for research and educational purposes and to safeguard their longterm archival as well as permanent detectability and quotability using standard search tools - all in compliance with accepted standards. In the long run, it is expected that the ressource will develop to be a digital thesaurus/showcase of the scientific production of the Göttingen Academy. Management and development of  res doctae are performed in compliance with recommendations and standardisations of national and international initiatives such as the German Initiative for Network Information (DINI) or the Open Archives Initiative (OAL).

Res doctae was thus awarded the DINI Certificate 2010, the currently most up-to-date seal of quality which is granted for document and publication services. Res doctae thus complies with all requirements as regards content and any technical standards which are required by services of this kind on a national as well as international level. The Certificate takes into account international developments with regard to a trustworthy document and publication service.
